Web accessibility
The definition of Web accessibility in Wikipedia is spot on and is as follows:
Web accessibility refers to the practice of making websites usable by people of all abilities and disabilities.
I firmly believe in the integrity of the Internet. We share, promote, inform and live on the web by attracting the most possible viewers to a website. These viewers might have limitations, no matter how benign. I vow to educate, assess and implement accessibility guidelines. The web is resourceful and interactive. We can make it so for everyone.
Web Standards
The W3C, an international consortium of people dedicated to Web Standards. These Web Standards are a set of guidelines related to various fields in Internet Technology. The one’s I’m more concerned with are the HTML, CSS and WCAG standards.
The Quebec Government has adopted it’s own standards. The SGQRI affects all governmental organizations and will hopefully trickle down to other institutions.
Web Development – Content Management System
These platforms allow you to be in control of your site, but more importantly they allow you to manage your website directly online. You can edit the content, add pages, delete pages, be empowered.
WordPress
WordPress is an open source community driven CMS. It was originally created as a blog platform, but has been transformed into a much more powerful tools. Its intuitive characteristics and clean look make it an excellent choice for any small company or personal website.
Drupal
Drupal is another open source community driven CMS. This one is more robust and has greater flexibility in terms of generating complex pages. Its latest release has considerable accessibility improvements. If you are looking for a CMS that is accessible for the visitor and the editor of the site, Drupal 7 is the way to go.
Web Design
I like simple. If you like simple, after an initial exchange, I can produce a couple of preliminary web designs and we can go from there. If you already have a design, I welcome the opportunity of working with your web designer.
Cross-Browser compatibility
Browsers like Chrome, Firefox (FF), Internet Explorer (IE), Safari work and display certain coding elements differently. Making sure that your site produces the same results in all browsers can be a tricky thing. Luckily with knowledge and patience, it is possible to achieve a happy medium.
Hosting
Once you have your domain name registered, I can either provide hosting myself or recommend other hosting companies that will suit your needs.
Mailchimp
Mailchimp is an online newsletter service. It is reasonably easy to use. They have pre-designed templates that you can implement or you can create your own. Either way, I can guide you through the process.
